Lady Gaga Concert Winner: Me!

This week, I entered a SiriusXM Gayle King Welcomes Lady Gaga contest and had a funny feeling that I would win. The concert is on Tuesday, June 7 in front of an intimate audience at the SiriusXM New York City studios. Things were stable at my office, so I was sure I could get away.

Today, the phone rang, and the caller ID read Sirius XM. Having forgotten about the contest, I wondered why they might be calling.

I answered the phone, and Sophia from Sirius XM asked for me and referenced my entry in the contest. Can I say I wasn’t surprised when she told me I won? I just had that feeling.

Sophia didn’t really know where Erie is, so she asked how we could best get to NYC. I told her the various options, and she was amused at how difficult it is to get out of Erie. We decided the easiest route would be Erie to Philadelphia to NYC.

She told me that the concert was at noon and wondered if we wanted to fly in that morning the day before. It would be likely that flying in the same day would chance missing the concert if a flight was delayed.

Sophia said she was going to email me a W-9 tax document and some other documents, and if I could sign them and return them ASAP, that would be great. Jim was hovering around asking me what was going on. I’m sure he could tell it was something good.

After I hung up the phone, I could barely get the news out past my enormous smile. I had won a contest that tens of thousands of people had entered. Sophia had told me that.

Of course, when I tried to print the document that Sophia sent me, the printer needed a new ink cartridge and then needed to align the cartridges. Then my laptop decided to stop communicating with the printer. Ach!

Jim, who is infinitely more level-headed than I, actually read the affidavits that we were to sign and informed me that we had to have them notorized or signed by two witnesses. I signed his, and he signed mine, and then he took them next door to see if a neighbor would provide the second signature. Bev, next door, was happy to do the favor and even mentioned that her husband is a notary, but he wasn’t home.

With papers signed, we scanned them and emailed them back to Sophia with time to spare from the 5:00 p.m. deadine. Within 15 minutes of the email transmission, she called and said that our air and hotel were booked! She was going to get out of the office and into the sun, but if I had any questions, she’d have her Blackberry with her.

It’s going to be a whirlwind trip of around 36 hours, and we can’t wait!
