Wild animals belong in the wild–or in a zoo.
The other day, a pet chimpanzee attacked a woman and severely disfigured her face. The victim was a friend of the woman who owned the chimp. Travis, the chimp, wanted to go for a drive and took the keys to the car. The owner and her friend tried to lure him back into his cage. Travis snapped and attacked the friend. You might not think that chimpanzees can be deadly, but they can, especially when they weigh 200lbs. In the wild, chimps are very aggressive, often killing members of their own tribe in power struggles.
This tragedy is not the chimp’s fault. You can train a pet, but you can’t undo the hard wiring in their heads. Lots of people think that it’s cute to teach chimpanzees to perform human tasks. But just like humans can get frustrated, when you have a frustrated 200 lb. animal on your hands, you have trouble.
