So, I’m sure you’ve had to “activate” new credit cards for existing accounts before, right? It’s a damn scam.
I received a new FIA Card Services Visa recently and decided to activate it yesterday. While waiting for my card to “activate,” the customer-service representative offered to review my account to see if there were any better deals, etc. She mentioned that I pay my balance every month, but wanted to let me know that I could get a cash advance for home improvements, large purchases, taxes, etc., with no interest until November of 2009. I declined. She then told me about a service that would pay my monthly payment if I should, 1.) Get sick, 2.) Have a baby, 3.) Lose a job, 4.) Move . . . .
Like I said, we pay the balance off every month. If I didn’t pay this month off in full, the minimum payment would have been $21.
Credit-card debt is apparently one of the contributing factors to our failing economy. FIA Card Services certainly isn’t trying to help us learn to use our credit cards wisely. It just wants me to borrow more and more money.
