William E. Dimorier's grave after cleaning.

Recently, I was honored to speak at the National Authors Day celebration hosted by the Chenango County Historical Society and SUNY Morrisville (Norwich campus). This gave me the opportunity to revisit the homeland of William E. Dimorier, whose life and service I spent many years researching and writing about. The early morning of November 1st started off with…

I, like so many, feel utterly helpless sitting here at home while a maniacal monster scourges the landscape of Ukraine. I wish I could reach back in time and change the course of history and the insidious spread of communism into China in 1949.  I learned about China’s civil war as I researched my book William…

Getting my book William E. Dimorier: Servant Leader onto Amazon was quite an uphill climb, especially for me who would rather do anything but spend time clicking through menus. Hopefully reading my story will save you some headaches when you list yours. I Googled how to do sell my independently published book on Amazon found a handy How-To page.…

Veterans Memorial Stadium in the early years.

Although William Edward Dimorier was born in New York, he lived for more than 40 years in Erie, Pennsylvania. In August 1906, William, a graduate of Colgate University, was hired as head of the English Department at Erie High, also known as Central. He served in many capacities during his career, such as athletics advisor,…

William E. Dimorier

In 1914, William Dimorier, a high school teacher from Erie, PA, received national recognition for a project he had initiated at Erie High called “Newspaper Week.” While Dimorier was not the originator of such a concept, his project was the seed for Erie’s long-running NIE (Newspapers in Education) program. The Monroe News-Star, in Monroe, Louisiana, ran the following story…

William E. Dimorier

This blog post contains a book proposal on the manuscript that resulted from the Dimorier Project. BRIEF ABSTRACT  The Dimorier project began in 2004, when a handwritten journal of original poetry was discovered at a printing-house auction in Erie, Pennsylvania. The journal belonged to William E. Dimorier (1871-1951), an educator, administrator, benefactor, and poet. Born in Afton,…

Presque Isle State Park Sidewalk Trail

Presque Isle State Park, in northwestern Pennsylvania, provides quiet refuge for clearing one’s head and connecting with nature. The trails that wind throughout this Lake Erie peninsula offer many opportunities for such soothing sojourns. William E. Dimorier (1871-1951) educator and servant leader, spent many idle hours at Presque Isle. In April of 1941, retired from the…

William E. Dimorier Erie Daily Times March 17, 1930

After studying William E. Dimorier for more than a decade, I concluded that his life could be summed up as follows: Service to others is worthwhile, even if unrecognized. It took me a while to finesse the thesis to that level, but it seemed that there was an even better way to express it. With a little more research,…

The Meaning of Service by Harry Emerson Fosdick, 1921

One of the books found in William E. Dimorier’s personal library was The Meaning of Service, by Harry Emerson Fosdick, published in 1921. It, perhaps, more than any other of William’s books, illustrates his life of service. Fosdick graduated from Colgate University in 1900, three years before William, so they had probably met one another there. After…
