7 Ways to Make Your New Year Count
The arrival of a new year often makes people feel uncomfortable. This is when the rapid passing of time becomes the most apparent and the uncertainty of the future somewhat unsettling.
At least that’s the way it feels for me. It’s the way I’ve been since I was thirteen, and we were entering a new decade (ahem).
So, I jotted down a few things that anyone can do to take the new year into their own hands and make it count. Maybe one or two of them will be helpful to you.
- Think of someone (living) who has made a positive impact on who you are today. Let them know that what they did mattered. This could be a challenging assignment if it is someone you knew long ago. But it might be worth it, for you and for them.
- Identify someone who could benefit from one of your special talents. See if you could share your talent with that person.
- Set attainable, tangible goals for yourself and keep track of them throughout the year.
- Learn something new. A language, a craft, a hobby, or a new way of cooking.
- Take stock of your personal appearance. Identify something about yourself that could use improvement (can’t we all use some improving?). Hairstyle? Skin? Wardrobe? Weight?
- Examine your diet and eating habits and learn about new foods that have high nutritional value and can also make you feel great.
- Give yourself the gift of quiet reflection. They say spending ten minutes a day alone with your thoughts can do wonders for your disposition.
So, there you have it. Seven ways to make your new year count! Happy new year.
