Perry Monument 1968 Note the steps. This is before the moat was built, which is dry and littered today. My mother told me that she and her best friend used to sit on the steps and "solve the problems of the world."

If funds leftover from a War of 1812 centennial had been used to build a stadium, there might never have been Perry Memorial on Presque Isle State Park.

Zuck Park, in Millcreek Township, PA, has quite a dramatic history. In 1925, John Joseph Zuck gave the City of Erie 20 acres to be used perpetually for recreation. The problem? The land wasn’t situated within the city limits.
